Getting Started in Bookkeeping
I've often been asked by people how to get started in Bookkeeping. Well I thought I'd put together a few of the more useful tools and sites that I've found over the years to assist people in getting through the maze of getting started.
This project is a bit of a work in progress so will be added to as time permits
I guess the key points about getting started are. Make a plan. Decide what you'll do then go away and do it.
I guess one of the first decisions is what products you'll support. If you're like me there is just so much information you can retain in your head. The more you know about one subject the more value you can share with your clients. Me I support Xero and MYOB. Within the MYOB product range though I've basically limited it to Accounting, Accounting Plus, Premier, Premier Enterprise on Windows and AccountEdge and Account Edge Network Edition on a Mac. I find that the other products are too small for me to learn and train clients on or there is no calling for it. Also I find Retail Manager a specialist area and I know some great people who do this so I'd rather refer that business on. By focusing to my strengths I hope that I provide a better service. When I started I did anything and everything but I could not keep up with all the new features of all the products specialization assisted me to focus on value.
